White Chin

Many of you have been kind enough to email me to ask if there is a new book in the offing.

The answer is yes, a novel about a cat called White Chin who gets dumped in the woods behind the Coach House. It will be for the 11+ age range and I hope to get it out next year.

France Bauduin is illustrating it and this is White Chin himself.

New Book !
Hi Marilyn,

Have just finished reading volume 2, and just as the first volume i had trouble putting the book down, and at times so i didn't finish it too soon i had to limit myself to reading 1/2 chapters a day!
I'm cat mad, its nice to know i'm not the only one, and would have more but the family say 3 is enough and have difficulty between 2 of mine just like Fannie and Gilly, so 3 it is.
Really looking forward to book 5 and thank you for creating wonderful mental pictures as i read.

best wishes June

How lovely of you to read all four books, thanks a lot. But warning, June, this next book will be a novel meant for children from 11 onwards, although am hoping it will work for readers of all ages.

I do feel for you with the problems you have between two of your cats. Once they exist they seldom go away altogether, so you and I and the others will all have to live with it, I guess. Thanks for your interest.

dear marilyn many thanks for some superb reading i have read three of the four books in the last month. the first had me crying buckets as i have lost cats to road over the years and i fully understand the fears you have with yours. i have four cats myself, rosie is 16yrs this month, mitzi is 11yrs also this month, then there is milo and fizz they were 6yrs in january (they were named after the childrens programme the tweenies). i adore my cats and so do my 5children we are real fanatics, its when the time comes for them to leave us i will struggle when rosies time comes (the longer they live the harder it is to let go) any way congratulations on your books and i hope you will continue the storys of your four legged family....debbie

Vee Vien I am replying to say how sorry I am to hear about your kitten. That is heartbreaking for you. But do get another cat, they are the most wonderful companions in the world. And thank you for reading the books. The next one will be for teenagers anyway, for all ages I hope! Let us know when you get a new cat. smilies/kiss.gif

Delighted!
I obviously haven't visited your website in a while now or else I would have known that another of your fantastic books is on its way! Your supreme talent for the written word is a joy to behold, and your understanding of the cat-human relationship is spot on! The book may be aimed at the younger reader, but I will definitely be buying it! My dear friend, Elaine, lost her beloved Harry in October when he was run over by a car, and she cannot believe how bereft she feels. I told her that she must read your books when she is ready, and she will then understand that oh so special relationship we humans can have with our cats. Thank you so much for your books, they have given me so much enjoyment.

Eagerly looking forward
Marilyn, can't wait for the new book. My daughter Daisy who I wrote to you about a while ago is writing her book report on her favourite author - you! Having lost my mum in September I am glad that being an avid reader she was able to read all of your books in a week just couldn't put them down. Myself and Daisy eagerly await the new one and both look lovingly at Moon Cottage when shopping at Tesco!

Can't wait for new book
I am a 16 year old cat fan, I currenlty have two cats at home called Roddy and Smudge. Roddy is very old but still enjoys a cuddle. I have to say that I think your books about your cats are good. It reminds me of my own experience with cats. They are good books and I hope to purchase your new book that you are writing.

Peter what a nice email to get, thank you so much. I am just finishing off the writing of White Chin, which will probably be published late summer or early autumn next year (2010) and I will put more news on the website very soon.

You take care of Roddy and Smudge now and keep cuddling that old boy, they are never too old for loves - thank you Marilyn smilies/cheesy.gif

Hi Tracy and thanks for asking. White Chin will be published late summer 2010 and I am just finishing the final stages of it. France Bauduin has done some cracking illustrations and will be starting work on the jacket shortly. I will put proper news up on the website once I have it.
Thanks for asking

Book Reviews

White Chin: the cat that walked by his wild lone

You either love cats or loathe them, but millions of feline fans will indulge themselves in this tale of White Chin, abandoned by his callous owners in a wood.

Forced to fend for himself, he survives until a farmer’s daughter, who witnessed the abandonment, finally finds him and encourages him back to family life.

Edwards, author of the Moon Cottage Cats series, has a genuine feel for the countryside and for the interaction between humans and animals, lending this gentle tale of trust and loyalty a sensitive and uplifting emotional core.

Aimed at younger readers, it will find plenty of adults reading it under the duvet.

Sally Morris - Daily Mail, 17th September 2010

White Chin: the cat that walked by his wild lone

Closely observed and very moving, complemented perfectly by fine detailed illustrations.
Michael Foreman

A terrific animal adventure and an incredibly heart-warming story.
Lovereading4kids

This isn't just another animal story: it's a slice of life and the illustrations are an absolute triumph.
Jane Badger

A sensitively wrought and compelling story that takes you inside the mind of a feline. Edwards has captured a voice that young adults will love.
Karin Slaughter

The Cats of Moon Cottage

A vivid, honest and observant book about a life with cats, told with charm and wit.
Desmond Morris

Cat lovers will adore this book. I know I did. A tender story of love between the author and her cats.
Celia Haddon

More Cat Tales from Moon Cottage

A colourful chronicle that celebrates the many ways animals enrich our relationships and our lives. It's catnip for anyone who has ever loved a feline.
Karin Slaughter

The Cats on Hutton Roof

I admire this book even more than its predecessors. I don't think it's exaggerating to say that in some ways it stands comparison with Tarka the Otter. The tone of voice is different, and so is the pace, but the observation and the empathy are of similar quality.

And these, I believe, are the most important things in attempts to interpret the animal world to the rest of us.
Geoffrey Moorhouse

The Coach House Cats

A fascinating account of the intertwined lives of four cats. A touching book, intelligently observed.
