The passing of Pinch PDF Print E-mail

Debbie Coates, friend and poet, was the patron of a very special cat called Pinch, who was an artist who lived in her grounds in Southern California.

Patron and Artist is what Debbie finally realised was the probable relationship shared between herself and her beloved calico cat companion of eleven years standing.

Debbie, the author of Cat Haiku writes superb feline haiku. This is her tribute to the wonderful Pinch.

Small panther cat, you

Will leap forever in my

Memory and heart

All animals are special, but some are more special than others, and Pinch was one of the latter for me. I think what I miss most of all is the way she used to check in periodically to make sure everything was all right; she'd look up, catch my eye, and issue a soundless meow. I would meow back in equal silence, and then we'd both go back to what we'd been doing, secure in the knowledge that all was well in our world (not always an easy accomplishment since, although I was responsible for food and the weather, Pinch was in charge of everything else). She was a wonderful little cat (and if she'd had opposable thumbs, could probably have written Cat Haiku without any help from me)!

Important message about Debbie Coates
Debbie I am so sorry I never met the great Pinch. She sounds wonderful. This is a message for anyone out there who would like to read Debbie's remarkable Cat Haiku, it is a truly wonderful collection of cat poetry and it is also very funny - here is a link to Amazon in the UK:

Book Reviews

White Chin: the cat that walked by his wild lone

Closely observed and very moving, complemented perfectly by fine detailed illustrations.

A terrific animal adventure and an incredibly heart-warming story.
Lovereading4kids

This isn't just another animal story: it's a slice of life and the illustrations are an absolute triumph.
Jane Badger

A sensitively wrought and compelling story that takes you inside the mind of a feline. Edwards has captured a voice that young adults will love.
Karin Slaughter

The Cats of Moon Cottage

A vivid, honest and observant book about a life with cats, told with charm and wit.
Desmond Morris

Cat lovers will adore this book. I know I did. A tender story of love between the author and her cats.
Celia Haddon

More Cat Tales from Moon Cottage

A colourful chronicle that celebrates the many ways animals enrich our relationships and our lives. It's catnip for anyone who has ever loved a feline.
Karin Slaughter

The Cats on Hutton Roof

I admire this book even more than its predecessors. I don't think it's exaggerating to say that in some ways it stands comparison with Tarka the Otter. The tone of voice is different, and so is the pace, but the observation and the empathy are of similar quality.

And these, I believe, are the most important things in attempts to interpret the animal world to the rest of us.
Geoffrey Moorhouse

The Coach House Cats

A fascinating account of the intertwined lives of four cats. A touching book, intelligently observed.
Desmond Morris
