White Chin - the new book PDF Print E-mail

At last, I can announce that it will be published in August by Catnip and it will be a paperback at £6.99, with superb illustrations by France Bauduin, who drew the picture above which is on the jacket.

Its proper title is WHITE CHIN: the cat that walked by his wild lone.

I will be setting up the website to take orders, but it is too early yet, but as soon as I think I will be getting copies I will put a BUY NOW button on the top of the website, so you can pre-order.

Here is some more information about the book. It is a novel, set in the fells of Cumbria, and it tells the story of a cat, written from the cat’s point of view, of being cruelly abandoned in the woods and having to fend for himself. He has lots of scary adventures on his own in the wild.

Eventually he finds a new life with a little girl called Kirstie, who loves him deeply, but then things go wrong. It is sad and happy and there is a lot about animals of all kinds and country life.

It is meant for Year Six onwards, but I wrote it in a way that I hope that many of my adult cat lovers will enjoy, and I will include an extract in a later update.

France is indeed an amazing illustrator and I shall put some pictures she has done from the book up on Flickr next week so you can see them there. She is very talented and I am very lucky. June thank you so much for your support and I do hope you will not feel it is too much of a children's book. I hope it will cross the age barrier! It should be available from sometime in July. More news on the website once I know! Marilyn

What a great message Yvonne. I love your certainty that you will enjoy it, and I do hope so. It has produced from France some quite astonishing work, and she really deserves to do well from all her labours as her drawing is wonderfully painstakingly detailed. Thank you from both of us! smilies/grin.gif smilies/wink.gif MARILYN

Book Reviews

White Chin: the cat that walked by his wild lone

Closely observed and very moving, complemented perfectly by fine detailed illustrations.
Michael Foreman

A terrific animal adventure and an incredibly heart-warming story.
Lovereading4kids

This isn't just another animal story: it's a slice of life and the illustrations are an absolute triumph.
Jane Badger

A sensitively wrought and compelling story that takes you inside the mind of a feline. Edwards has captured a voice that young adults will love.
Karin Slaughter

The Cats of Moon Cottage

A vivid, honest and observant book about a life with cats, told with charm and wit.
Desmond Morris

Cat lovers will adore this book. I know I did. A tender story of love between the author and her cats.
Celia Haddon

More Cat Tales from Moon Cottage

A colourful chronicle that celebrates the many ways animals enrich our relationships and our lives. It's catnip for anyone who has ever loved a feline.
Karin Slaughter

The Cats on Hutton Roof

I admire this book even more than its predecessors. I don't think it's exaggerating to say that in some ways it stands comparison with Tarka the Otter. The tone of voice is different, and so is the pace, but the observation and the empathy are of similar quality.

And these, I believe, are the most important things in attempts to interpret the animal world to the rest of us.
Geoffrey Moorhouse

The Coach House Cats

A fascinating account of the intertwined lives of four cats. A touching book, intelligently observed.
